Healthy Kidney 10K

Manhattan, May 19, 2007 - Hooray for me! I survived the Healthy Kidney 10K in Central Park this past weekend. My goal was to beat 46 minutes, which I thought might be a stretch, considering I hadn't run 10K (6.2 miles) in about two years. But somehow I managed to push myself and finish in... 46 minutes exactly, according to the official results. Darn. Although according to my watch, I had finished in 45:58.99, and that's good enough for me to say I accomplished my goal.

(Incidentally, that was good enough for 978th place out of 5415 runners. Not my best relative performance, but it seemed like it was a pretty fast crowd.)

Yesterday, I learned that I've been accepted to run the NYC Half-Marathon in August. I'm excited, but apprehensive (there should be a word for being excited yet apprehensive). I've never run a half-marathon before. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever run more than 10K at a time. And a half-marathon is more than twice that (21.1K, or 13.1 miles). Lots of people do it, so I'm sure I can do it as well. Right? Now I have just over 10 weeks to find out the answer...
