Long Island, July 18, 2007 - I thought about staying home when I saw that the brand-new lake in my back courtyard had entered my garage. I thought about turning back when I saw the traffic backed up getting on to the Van Wyck. But then traffic actually started out pretty good on the Grand Central, despite the pouring, pouring rain.
Alas, it was only temporary luck. Floods everywhere caused lane and road closures everywhere. And then after nearly two hours of driving the 28 miles to work, I find that the last quarter-mile is just impassable. Dead cars driven by foolish drivers (and parked by unlucky drivers) were sticking up through the lake where there was formerly a normal intersection. So I parked at some other building and walked the rest of the way.
So fortunately, I was just merely inconvenienced by the rain. I should consider myself lucky, but I'm still hoping it stops by the time I drive home tonight.
