Congratulations! Violet is Phaedra's middle name. :)
Thanks! I'm sorry we didn't name her Violet Phaedra, then.
(Actually, what's weird is that the baby really has no official name yet. Nobody at the hospital has asked. We filled out the form, but it's apparently going to be 4 weeks before New York State gets back to us.)

Very different from our experience. Phaedra was born at 1:39am and we had her name by the next afternoon. Not TOO bad, I'd think, but there was this guy who came by four or five times asking for the name (the first time he came he got the rest of the birth certificate info). The last time, he stuck his head in, said something like, "No name yet?" in a resigned fashion and started walking away so that we had to call after him.

Oh and Phaedra keeps pointing at my screen and saying "BABY!!!" over and over again. It's very cute. :)
They told us our 8 pounder would be more like nine, also. ;)
Remember: sleep when the baby sleeps, no matter what! Good luck
Isn't it crazy how badly those estimates are off? We were told our 8 pounder would be more like 6.
It was that very morning that the doctor estimated 8 pounds, 2 ounces. We think the extra pound was all umbilical cord. (They were impressed with how long it was. Holy crap, watching them take it out was like watching a magician's scarf trick...)
Congratulations! We'll have to get our little flowers together sometime. :-)
Thanks! We shall - come see us at Reunions!
(We've already gotten the "flower patch" metaphor since our neighbors' baby is Lily. Funny, with Violet I always first think of the color, not the flower...)
Congrats to you, Sue and Violet!!!!
Thanks! Get prepared for my Flickr photostream to be taken over by baby photos...

Many congratulations! She looks like a sweetheart!
And I'd like to be the first to say: Beware the Violets inherent in the system!
-John & Steph & Jack & Kili
P.S. What were the other 2 names?
Ugh. May you be the last to say it, too! :-)
Our final four names (in alphabetical order) were Cordelia, Lily, Penelope, and Violet. It was a long (but really fun) process to get down to those four.
Also, our temporary name while we still hadn't decided was Euphrosyne. (The Greek goddess of joy, don't you know.) Didn't make the final cut, though.
ooh, I'm psyched that Lily was one of the Final Four!!
CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU & SUE! Little Violet is adorable! - Abby
Thanks! She's adorable so far. More so when she's sleeping than when she's crying...
Almost 4 AM! See, you guys could totally have come over for a few hours first: everyone left here by 1, or 1:30 at the latest.
Congratulations! I've always loved March violets, and it looks like you picked a lovely one. And the magic words "perfectly healthy" are a wonderful thing to hear.
(I wish I were closer to that start/finish line myself... I mean, enough with the rotundity and the suspense already.)
Sue started at 11pm, so if we had been over your place, we could have moved the party to the delivery room!
So far so good. The doctor said we could have taken the baby home the very next day. We respectfully declined. Sue's grandmother told us of her 8-day stay in the hospital, which was normal back then. That's more like it, especially now that Sue has been moved to a bed with a window.
Don't rush it - I understand the suspense part, but enjoy the pregnancy, because it's easier than the post-pregnancy. And the rotundity doesn't seem to go away as quickly as it should anyway (they assure me they didn't forget a baby in there...)
Congratulations!!! We ooohed and ahhhed at the pictures!!!
Congratulations! She's so beautiful!
Thanks! She takes after her beautiful parents :-)
