Forest Hills, Queens, April 8, 2006 - Karaoke is awesome. That was the overwhelming consensus at Sue's birthday party at our house last month (yeah, a month ago - I'm a lazy blogger). We were a bit unsure how it would turn out at first - there was an hour or two of hemming and hawing and pleas of shyness - but it turned out we needn't have worried. Once we kicked things off with "Happy Birthday" around 9:30pm, we sang ourselves hoarse nonstop until nearly 3am. The second microphone helped - people are more outgoing in duos and groups. Alcohol, of course, helps, but it's not necessary - our best singer was pregnant, and therefore completely sober. And it might be no coincidence that our drunkest singer was also the most tone-deaf (but also the most enthusiastic - and enthusiasm counts more than anything in karaoke). The first guests didn't leave until 1:30 - they were our next-door neighbors, so if we kept them up, that's their fault for leaving. (Our other next-door neighbors, with the small children, well... at least they didn't complain).

What an amazing party - probably the best one we ever had. I wonder how long we have to wait before we can do another one...
